Shanghai Shenhua coach Wu Jingui refuses to play ‘overweight’ Carlos Tevez

CARLOS TEVEZ, one of the highest-paid footballers in the world, has been dropped by his club for being overweight.

Former West Ham, Manchester United and Manchester City striker Tevez earns around £650,000-a-week at Chinese outfit Shanghai Shenhua but new coach Wu Jingui, who replaced Gus Poyet this week, says he not fit enough to play.

‘I won’t pick him right now. He’s not ready physically. He’s not fit to play,’ said the coach.

‘He is overweight. I have to take responsibility for the team and the players as well. If you are unable do your utmost to play, there’s no point in picking you. I have coached lots of big stars, and my players are never picked on reputation.’

Tevez, 33, joined Shenhua in December but the Argentine has managed just two goals from 11 games in an injury-hit spell in China and his team languish in 11th place in the Super League table.
